Reigning Lamborghini Gallardo World Champion Brandon Gdovic returns to the series which garnered him much success, competing for DAC Motorsports in the 2016 Blancpain Lamborghini Super Trofeo Series. Gdovic will transition from a Gallardo to a Huracan as he pilots the No. 46 ComServe Wireless Lamborghini for the full 12-race season beginning with season-opener at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca April 29-May 1.
Gdovic, who cut his teeth on oval racing in NASCAR, debuted in the Lamborghini Super Trofeo Series in 2015. The 24-year-old exceeded expectations throughout his inaugural season beginning with a class win in his first race and ending with Gdovic not only taking the top Amateur honors in North America with eight wins, but also taking the overall World Title in the Gallardo class, besting the Amateur, Pro-Amateurs, and Pro drivers in the Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo Series.
DAC Motorsports Team Principle and driver Emmanuel Anassis is no stranger to success in the sports car racing world. Anassis is the 2015 Ferrari Trofeo Pirelli North America Champion with 16 wins and eight poles to his name.
“DAC Motorsports has assembled a talented crew to support Brandon,” says Anassis. “We will put every effort into seeing that Brandon is successful.”
Gdovic has stayed quite busy over the off season. He kicked off 2016 by joining the Performance Tech Motorsports’ driver lineup for the Rolex 24 Hours of Daytona at the Daytona International Speedway. From there, Gdovic jumped behind the wheel of the No. 46 ComServe Wireless Camry for the inaugural K&N Pro Series East race at Mobile Speedway. He made his 2016 NASCAR XFINITY Series debut at Bristol Motor Speedway in April, finishing 18th and then flew to Valencia, Spain to compete in the NASCAR Whelen Euro Series. But Gdovic looks forward to returning to the Super Trofeo Series.
“After a great 2015 Super Trofeo season, I’m really looking forward to returning this year in a the new Huracan”, says Gdovic. “After getting some seat time testing, I feel like these cars suit me better than the Gallardos did”.
Gdovic spent the weekend of April 17-18 testing the DAC Motorsports Lamborghini Huracan at Sonoma Raceway. “It took Brandon no time to adapt to a new car and new track at our test in Sonoma Raceway earlier this month,” said team driving coach Anthony Massari. “Within a few laps he was posting faster times than the other Super Trofeo Huracans testing on the same day.”
The Blancpain Lamborghini Super Trofeo Series season-opener at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca is April 29-30. Follow along at squadracorse.lamborghini.com/en/live-usa/.
