China Grove, N.C. (Sept. 16, 2015) – Precision Performance Motorsports driver Brandon Gdovic is back in the United States after making his debut in the NASCAR Whelen Euro Series at Autodromo dell’Umbria in Magione, Italy.
Piloting the No. 46 Fronius Chevrolet Camaro for Precision Performance Motorsports, Gdovic had a successful weekend in Italy. The Virginia native captured two top-5 finishes and a top-10 in four races over two days.
“I had a great time over in Italy, getting to enjoy the country itself and the NASCAR Euro Series,” said Gdovic. “I really enjoyed getting the chance to drive these cars and I can’t thank Jerome and the series enough for being so welcoming and for everything that they did for me.”
Gdovic raced in both the ELITE 1 and ELITE 2 Divisions of the NASCAR Whelen Euro Series, which runs two races for each division during their race weekends.
The 23-year-old qualified impressively in the first ELITE 1 race Saturday, earning an 11th place starting position. Due to an on track incident, Gdovic finished 18th on the technical 2.507 km (1.558 mile) course. Brandon quickly acclimating himself to the car and track. He then qualified 6th and finished 4th in the ELITE 2 race.
Focused on improving his race pace in his European debut, Gdovic came back Sunday and finished 4th in the ELITE 2 race before finishing out the weekend with an impressive 8th-place run in the final ELITE 1 race.
“I learned a lot and met a lot of great people, which further helps build the bridge between NASCAR in the United States and NASCAR in Europe,” said Gdovic. “Thomas Ferrando and Anthony Kumpen helped tremendously by spotting and coaching me in regards to the track. Anthony’s team took me under their wing and treated me like I was one of their own.
“Everyone in the series was so accommodating to my manager, Kate Richer and I. It was great to have the Fronius General Manager of their Italian branch there to show his support for me in the NASCAR Whelen Euro Series. I can’t wait to get back over to Europe and race again.”
Gdovic didn’t leave Europe empty handed, as he also left Italy with an ELITE 1 podium Sunday in the Junior Trophy category, which recognizes the top drivers under-25 in the series.
Next up: Brandon Gdovic will pilot the No. 46 Gallardo Lamborghini for Mitchum Motorsports in the Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo North America series. The series has added some Texas-style flair to its schedule with two rounds of exciting race action Sept. 17-19 at Circuit of the Americas.
