Gdovic’s 2.5-Mile Debut Cut Short by Rain
China Grove (June 6, 2016) – A rainy weekend at Pocono Raceway was cut short for Brandon Gdovic and the Precision Performance Motorsports team. The crew unloaded the No. 46 ComServe Wireless / WindStax Chevrolet Camaro Thursday ahead of an extended practice day due to this being the NASCAR XFINITY Series’ first trip to the Tricky Triangle. Gdovic spent the two scheduled practice sessions soaking up as much information as he could about the two and a half-mile track. This being the largest oval track Gdovic has ever raced at, he logged a number of laps before wrapping the day up with a mock-qualifying run.
The Pocono Mountains are notorious for rain in June and Friday was no exception. Both scheduled practice sessions were cancelled due to rain and the XFINITY Series competitors would qualify Saturday morning with minimal practice. Gdovic drove his ComServe Wireless / WindStax Camaro to a 27th-place starting position for the Pocono Green 250 after his single-car, single-lap qualifying run.
As the 100-lap event got underway, Gdovic wasted no time advancing position. The field would spread out over the expansive race track under green-flag runs, so he would take advantage of each restart to move forward, cracking the Top 20 by Lap 20. Unfortunately, by the debris caution on Lap 30, Gdovic reported handling issues. The Precision Performance Motorsports crew made adjustments under caution, but the issue persisted. On Lap 39, Gdovic pit again for the team to change a shock on the ComServe Wireless / WindStax Camaro. He rejoined the field in the 27th position.
As the NASCAR XFINITY Series field crossed the halfway point of the Pocono Green 250, drivers began to report rain in Turn 3. NASCAR threw the red flag, parking the field. This system continued to develop throughout the afternoon, forcing NASCAR to call the race at Lap 53 and preventing Gdovic’s charge back into the Top 20. He finished the rain-shortened race in the 26th position.
Brandon Gdovic Quotes:
“I really enjoyed getting the chance to go to Pocono and had a decent weekend. Unfortunately in qualifying and the race something happened to the car that turned it into a handful. We believe a left front shock went bad causing the car to be ill handling. Unfortunate, but we’ll move on to the next one.”
