Gdovic Scores a Pair of Podium Finishes at VIR
China Grove, N.C. (August 29, 2016) – After a successful NASCAR XFINITY Series race weekend at Bristol Motor Speedway, reigning Lamborghini Gallardo World Champion Brandon Gdovic transitioned back to a sports car to battle the tricky turns of Virginia International Raceway (VIR). Gdovic continued his streak of podium finishes in the Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo Series season, scoring two second-place finishes.
Having experience in last year’s Super Trofeo event at VIR, Gdovic demonstrated instantaneous speed on the 3.27-mile course. The 24-year-old qualified his ComServe Wireless Lamborghini Huracan in seventh overall for Race 7 and second overall for Race 8.
As Race 7 of the Super Trofeo North American Championship got underway, Gdovic wasted no time advancing position. In only two laps, he was up to third position in the ProAm division. A lengthy caution period dominated the first half of the race, leaving Gdovic eager to race to the lead. But with only ten minutes remaining for the field’s required pit stop, he was forced to bring his Huracan to the attention of the DAC Motorsports crew once the green flag flew. After pit stops had cycled through, Gdovic was involved with a tight battle between the top ProAm drivers. He was able to pass a competitor on the last lap, finishing on the podium in the second position.
Gdovic started Race 8 from the second position overall, leading the ProAm division. He maintained the lead as the field went under caution for a competitor spin, a caution that would last the first half of the event. The field went back green with under 30 minutes remaining and Gdovic relinquished the lead to take his required pit stop. He was on a charge to the lead as the laps wound down before the caution flag flew. With three minutes remaining, Gdovic restarted the race from the second position in ProAm and third overall, a position that he would maintain until the checkered flag.
Brandon Gdovic Quotes:
“Not too bad of a weekend at Virginia International Raceway finishing fourth overall and second in class in the first race and third overall and second in class in the second race. I always enjoy racing at VIR. We are in a really close points battle right now, but I am hoping to take over the points lead in a few weeks when we head to COTA. I’d like to thank Emmanuel Annasis, Anthony Massari and the whole DAC Motorsports team for continuing to help me improve each weekend in such a competitive field.”
