Abu Dhabi, U.A.E. (February 14, 2017) – TCR Middle East points leader Brandon Gdovic returned to the United Arab Emirates over the weekend to defend his championship lead in Race 3 and 4 of the six-race series. As the only American behind the wheel of the front-wheel 330hp, 2.0L turbo engine Volkswagen Golf TCR, Gdovic took home a pair of fourth-place finishes at Yas Marina Circuit in order to maintain the points lead for himself and for Liqui Moly Team Engstler.

After an international flight and under three hours of rest, Gdovic began the race weekend with a full day of testing around the 3.45–mile track of Yas Marina Circuit.  As a consequence of his win in Dubai last month, TCR rules required Gdovic’s No. 46 Liqui Moly Volkwagen Golf to carry an additional 66 pounds of success weight.

Starting in the 6^th position in Race 1, Gdovic spent the entire race battling with Luca Engstler who is second in the points championship ultimately securing a fourth-place finish. Due to contact with a competitor in Race 1, Gdovic reported that his VW Golf wasn’t handling properly in Race 2. He held on to it throughout the 30-minute event to score another fourth-place finish.

Gdovic will return to the Middle East in March for the third and final round of the TCR Middle East Series at Bahrain International Circuit.
