Expectations were not high that Brandon Gdovic, who cut his teeth on the “rubbing is racing” ovals of NASCAR, would successfully transition to driving a Lamborghini in the sports car world. The reality of his successful transition showed early with a class win in his first race and ended with Gdovic not only taking the top Amateur honors in North America with eight wins, but also taking the overall World Title in the Gallardo class, besting the Amateur, Pro-Amateurs, and Pro drivers in the Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo Series!

After assisting his family’s NASCAR XFINITY Series team at the event at Phoenix International Raceway the previous week, Gdovic headed to historic Sebring Raceway with the goal of capitalizing on his impressive first season in the Super Trofeo Series. The weekend began with the final two North American races. Gdovic podiumed in both, finishing second and third respectively, subsequently winning the North American Lamborghini Gallardo AM Championship and finishing second overall in the Gallardo class in his Mitchum Motorsports prepared Lamborghini.

This momentum carried over into Saturday’s first World Championship race in which the Super Trofeo European and Asian Series join the North American Series. Gdovic piloted the No. 46 American Messaging / ComServe Wireless Lamborghini to second-place overall in the Gallardo division.

In Sunday’s rain-soaked final World Championship event, Gdovic worked his way from mid pack in the field to going for the lead against not only the Gallardos but also the more powerful Lamborghini Huracans. Continuing in the sometimes blinding-wet conditions, Gdovic lost fourth gear with two laps to go and had to limp to the finish, but held on to secure the World Championship.
