Brandon Gdovic joins Sam Hunt Racing, returns to NASCAR Xfinity Series Competition
Team Release (Mooresville, NC): It was announced today that 28-year-old Lamborghini Super Trofeo Series Champion and former NASCAR Xfinity Series driver Brandon Gdovic will return to NASCAR competition, joining Sam Hunt Racing beginning at Indianapolis Motor Speedway July 4 in the #26 WindStax Energy Toyota Supra. Gdovic, a former NASCAR K&N Pro Series East race winner, shifted to sports car racing in 2017 – where he has racked up a North American and World Lamborghini Super Trofeo Championships, as well as multiple wins in the Lamborghini Huracan Super Trofeo Championship Series- including his most recent double win with co-driver Conor Daly at Laguna Seca in 2019.
However, Gdovic is no stranger to Sam Hunt or the NASCAR garage. Getting his start in late model stock cars at Langley Speedway in Hampton, VA, he went on to find success in the former NASCAR K&N Pro Series East – including a series victory at Greenville Pickens Speedway in 2013. Gdovic’s 13th place finish at Watkins Glen (2015) marks his highest NASCAR Xfinity Series finish to date.
In 2012, Gdovic and SHR team owner Sam Hunt raced as teammates together at Precision Performance Motorsports in the K&N Series.
“I’m looking forward to getting back in an Xfinity car for the first time in a few years”, said Gdovic. “These cars are a lot of fun to drive on road courses and it should be an interesting race for the series’ first time on the Indy infield. I am excited about getting to team up with Sam and his team in a reunion from when he raced with our team back in 2012. The Sam Hunt Racing crew have put together a great team and car that I’m confident will result in a strong finish for us in Indy! I appreciate that my long-time sponsors WindStax Energy and ComServe Wireless are coming on board for this event.”
Team owner Sam Hunt, 27, is excited to work with his former teammate once again and looks forward to the continued growth and development of his youthful organization.
“Brandon is one of the most talented, fierce race car drivers I’ve known or competed with. From stock cars to sports cars, he has always had an innate ability to take his equipment and maximize its performance. His understanding of how stock cars function, as well as his experience and success in the sports car world have all of us excited to go to Indianapolis for the very first Indy Road Course event. We are excited to bring some heat to the big teams and think Brandon will embrace the grittiness and passion our little team has. In addition, it will also give Colin (Garrett) an experienced teammate he can learn from and bounce ideas off of- especially on the road racing side of the sport.”
Gdovic joins 19-year-old rookie Colin Garrett at Sam Hunt Racing and plans to focus primarily on road races in 2020. Sam Hunt Racing, a newly formed NASCAR Xfinity Series team and former ARCA Menards East team, has a current best NXS finish of 14th with Garrett at Homestead Miami Speedway in 2020. Sam Hunt Racing utilizes Joe Gibbs Racing Engines and support from Toyota Racing Development.
