Gdovic Wraps Up 2016 Lamborghini Super Trofeo Season Second in Points Championship
China Grove, N.C. (December 5, 2016) Brandon Gdovic, who successfully transitioned from stock car to road course racing in 2015, added to his ever-growing list of achievements by taking home second-place honors in the North America Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo Series driver points standings only two points shy of first place.
Gdovic, who cut his teeth on oval racing in NASCAR, debuted in the Lamborghini Super Trofeo Series in 2015. The 24-year-old exceeded expectations throughout his inaugural season beginning with a class win in his first race and ending with Gdovic not only taking the top Amateur honors in North America with eight wins, but also taking the overall World Title in the Gallardo class in the Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo Series.
Gdovic graduated from the Amateur to Pro-Am division in the 2016 Super Trofeo Series season and proved up to the challenge of competing against seasoned sports car racing veterans. With three wins and eight podium finishes of 10 races, he sat comfortably in second place poised to take home another championship heading into the U.S. Finals at Circuit Valencia in Valencia, Spain.
Gdovic did his part – and then some – in the final two races, posting back to back wins in two of his best races of the season. Unfortunately, his closest competitor finished second and third and was able to hold on to the points championship while Gdovic wrapped up the season in second place.
Brandon Gdovic Quotes:
“Overall it was a great year with DAC Motorsports. Unfortunately, I missed the championship by two points. This would have been a different story if it weren’t for having to start in last place in four of the 12 races and being wrecked on the first lap of both Circuit of the Americas races. That’s how it goes sometimes though and I am still happy to have had such a good year bringing home a few wins with a new team. I am already looking forward to next year!”
