China Grove, NC. (August 11, 2015) – Brandon Gdovic finished an impressive lead-lap 13th on Saturday afternoon at Watkins Glen International in his first NASCAR Xfinity Series start in the Precision Performance Motorsports-prepared Chevrolet. The No. 55 Camaro is owned by his father, Rick Gdovic of Yorktown, Va., and sponsored by WindStax Wind Power Systems and Fronius USA.
In getting the best Xfinity Series finish of his career, the 23-year-old driver overcame a penalty for running over a loose air hose while exiting the pits. Later, he was forced to make an unscheduled late-race pit stop to change a loose tire. Despite those setbacks, the PPM team brought home the third-best finish among teams on the grid that weren’t affiliated with a NASCAR Sprint Cup Series organization.
Led by crew chief Mark Setzer, Gdovic was 19th-fastest in the first practice and 15th in the second at the historic road course in upstate New York. Gdovic then backed up his practice times with a 19th-place qualifying effort in only the third Xfinity race of his career, his first on a road course. He was briefly a top-10 runner until getting shuffled back during a late-race restart.
“The PPM team brought it home p-13 in our first Xfinity start with WindStax Wind Power Systems and Fronius USA on board!” said Brandon Gdovic, whose ever-growing racing resume includes success in several disciplines within the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series, a victory in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series, the ARCA Series and multiple victories in the Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo Series. “I can’t thank everyone on the team enough for all their hard work getting this car ready with such short notice. We had a good run all race long and we overcame a loose wheel with 15 to go to make it back up to 13th. I had a ton of fun wheeling one of these on a road course and hope to do it again soon. Thanks to everyone for the support and messages.”
“I am very proud of our team’s debut in the Xfinity Series” Said Richard Gdovic, Team Owner of Precision Performance Motorsports. Charles Denike, Team Manager and Engineer has taken charge of our Xfinity program and is continuing the success from our K&N program. Everyone has worked very hard preparing our racecars for this event and it paid off with an exceptional finish for our team. Brandon did a great job missing all of the wrecks, racing smart, and executing each pit stop like a veteran. He is a testament to our training programs and extraordinary success we have had all year helping other drivers reach their potential. I would also like to thank WindStax and Fronius USA for their continued support of our program. Their representatives and families were able to attend this race and enjoy the excitement and hospitality provided by a great team of racing professionals.”
